A celebration of the area’s heritage, community, and natural resources with a wide variety of activities and events for all to enjoy!

The Franklin Grove Area Historical Society hosts many of the Summer Harvest Festival activities and events at Chaplin Creek Village.
See our historic village come alive Saturday, August 5th and Sunday, August 6th from 9 AM to 4PM featuring:

*19th Century Prairie Village Demonstrations including Blacksmithing, Wool Spinning, Basketmaking, Quilting, Wood Carving, and Pottery Making.
*Local Artisans selling their unique handmade wares and delicous foodstuffs
*Live Bluegrass, Country, and Folk music featuring local musicians
*Delicious Food-Juicy Pulled Pork! Heavenly Pie!
*The Chaplin Creek Muzzle Loaders - Camp + Demonstrations
*Spear Throwing! Axe Throwing!
*Tours of the restored historic buildings at Chaplin Creek Village including a schoolhouse, jail, ice cream shop, blacksmith shop, house, cabin, and barn.
*Kids activities FREE!!

Art Show

 

WINIFRED KNOX MEMORIAL LIBRARY
Presents
7th Annual Art Show

Event is being held during Franklin Grove's Harvest Festival celebration
Friday, August 04 and Saturday, August 05

Cash award will be presented to the winning artists.

The call is for artists 16 years of age or older who live within a 30 miles radius of Franklin Grove. All 2 dimensional work (acrylics, paintings, pastels, oil paintings, pencil/charcoal drawings) must be original, recently done, properly framed and wired for hanging, and suitable for family viewing, no nudes please. The show will not accept crafts or sculptures. Photographs will be accepted into the art show.
You may deliver your artwork directly to the Winifred Knox Memorial Library on Wednesday, August 2th, from 10:00 am - 7:00 pm or on Thursday, August 3rd , from 10:00 am - 1:00 pm.

There will be a judging of the show Thursday afternoon (August 3rd) from 1:00-3:00 pm. Ribbons will be placed on the selected artwork Thursday afternoon for public viewing. Artwork will be on display for public viewing Friday from 10:00 am - 7:00 pm, and on Saturday from 9:00 am - 3:00 pm. Artwork may be picked up on the following Monday and Tuesday during regular library hours (10:00 am - 7:00 pm).

Please bring your receipt along when picking up your artwork.

Each artist may enter up to 2 paintings or photographs. There will be a $10.00 entry fee for each painting/photograph. The artist's name and contact information must be attached to the back of each work. A duplicate contact form will be given to the volunteers for record keeping. We will not participate in the sale of art but will gladly pass on to you the names of anyone interested in purchasing your work.

This is so we can plan for space and make sure we have plenty of easels. Feel free to call if you have any questions or concerns regarding the art show.

Hoedown Showdown

Saturday, August 5, 2017

10 am

Atlasta Park, Franklin Grove

Come Scale the Wall of Straw...Clear the Hurdle Bales...Low Crawl Through the Gooey Mud...Slip and Slide Past the Finish Line.. and more silly obstacles to attack!

If you love to get wet and muddy this is the obstacle course for you! Kids ages 5-12 are welcome to come join in the messy fun at Atlasta Park in Franklin Grove.

All participants must complete the entry form and waiver.

Games and Concessions will also be available.

This will be an individually timed event and the top three contestants from each age group will receive an award.

Age groups will be: 5-6, 7-8, 9-10, and 11-12.

Youngest group will start the event.

Bringing a change of clothes and towel is recommended since most obstacles involve mud and water.

Please ensure your child is wearing clothes and tennis shoes that are allowed to become stained or damaged.

Lawn chairs/Blankets are encouraged to sit back, relax, and cheer on the kids.

On the day of the event please have your child arrive by 9:45 to their designated age group area to sign-in and receive a wristband and t-shirt (sizes are not guaranteed).
